Explore the Uniform Tire Grading System

In a bid to make all tires standard, the U.S. Department of Transportation requires all tire manufacturers to provide particular details on the sidewall of each tire. Every tire has a code that shows the plant and manufacturer of the tire regardless of whether it is designated as LN or R.

Tire manufacturers also have the option to put up a manufacturing code (LMJR), which standards for the category of the tire, tread pattern and specifics on the construction of the tire. The Department of Transportation has also come up with a Uniform Tire Quality Grade system to which all tires should adhere to. This system measures temperature resistance, traction and tread wear of each tire.
